The remodel

A couple of you have asked to see the results of the Ike-induced remodel... I've tried to capture the essence of both the "before" and "after"... which is hard to do with a camera. Try to imagine how lovely it was with a musty-wet smell and concrete underfoot (after tearing up the wet carpet). It was cozy! I have to admit, the results are nice and there's no more musty-mildewy smell. :)

The lovely kitchen ceiling with water damage (note the scary fluorescent lights we were ever-so happy to replace!)

The "after" kitchen... fresh paint, new ceiling, new chandelier over the breakfast table, new recessed lights (bye fluorescents!), and 2 new pendant lights over the bar area

The "before" roof... very messed up and made with cheap shingles

The "after" roof, made with better shingles... hopefully will withstand any other storms we endure (which will hopefully be none!)

The lovely wet carpet... I was sooooo upset to get rid of it (yea, right... after 3 years with a large dog living on it, it needed to go!)

The new hard wood floors and new ceiling fan... a huge improvement!

Thank you to our friends Christy and Jared Lyons and her sister Laura for helping us find reasonable contractors to do the work. It's amazing the prices we were getting quoted... there were many scumbags out there after Ike taking advantage of people. (ie: Ranger Roofing and Eric Hayes the electrician) We recommend to all who may read this do not use them! I could post a whole entry on how they tried to rip us off!

To end on a positive note... This monkey loves the results!
