Ike Update

I am typing this from my sister's computer so I'll have to make it quick... We made it through the storm OK, but our house didn't. That made for a very scary night. I think next time-heaven forbid- I'd like to go through a hurricane during the day (or at least we'll be leaving town next time!) A huge portion of our shingles were ripped off, exposing the plywood so we got pretty extensive water damage. At 4:00 in the morning Jaxson woke up and I went to check on him, and noticed it was raining inside! So buckets, bowls and tupperware came out and we were able to minimize the flooding. We still don't have power so I'm doing laundry and computer stuff at my sister's house who's lucky enough to have power.

It was a very scary storm, I've never heard winds like that. I seriously thought our roof was going to fly off the house or a tree was going to come through the roof. It was so crazy to hear the winds coming from the northeast first -and then we had about 2 hours of eerie calm silence- and the the winds raged again from the opposite direction. Jaxson woke up a few times that night as well, I think he was scared too. Except for the water damage to the carpet, ceiling, and light fixtures we made it ok. Oh- and by the grace of God -we have had beautiful Fall weather all this week. It has been like living in NorCal or Montana! That has made it bearable. We have wonderful neighbors, one of which has let us hook up our fridge to their generator. Another neighbor with a generator let me store my frozen breastmilk in his freezer till we got our fridge hooked up! (That was a little awkward asking for that favor!) Anyway, it's crazy that it takes a disaster for us to really get to know our neighbors!

I am so thankful that our families made it through ok...and I pray for all of those people who have lost more than we did. It's just amazing the amount of destruction and devastation. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! Oh- and I haven't returned phone calls because we had no cell coverage until yesterday! I'll post some aftermath pictures later!
