Jaxson in the NICU

One ounce!

Yep, that's it... that's what Jaxson gained this week! He weighed 19lb. 14 oz... I was a little disappointed, but it is a gain. Dr. Penn wants to weigh him again in a week. So that takes me to his eating...

Yesterday we met with the ECI ladies and they did a full developmental evaluation. He's on track in all areas (physical, cognitive, etc...and actually ahead in social/emotional) but he's behind in his "adaptive behaviors" because of his eating. He's qualified for an occupational therapist to come out and help once a month. She recommended yesterday that we begin each meal with foods that he can chew like cheerios and then introduce the more textured foods (like chicken, mashed banana, and stage 3 foods that are lumpy). That way he's already chewing and it doesn't confuse him when he's given another "chewing" food. The purees and cereals we will save for the end of the feeding. I guess before he was getting "confused" when given purees and then something lumpy, he didn't know he had to chew it and then it would cause him to gag and vomit.

So far so good! Today at lunch I fed Jaxson chicken with a little cheese from my sandwich and he LOVED it! He was shoving it in his mouth... it was so cute! Last night too... he couldn't eat it fast enough! So hopefully we're on our way to eating more table foods and gaining weight!
