Doctor's Visit

We had a good visit with Dr. Penn this afternoon. Shawn was able to go because he got home from work in time. Jaxson weighs 19 lbs. and is 27 inches long!!! His head circumference showed normal growth (of a large head nonetheless!), which was good news. His rash may be yeast-related so we were prescribed some cream. Nothing too exciting, which is a good thing. However, we will have to go visit Dr. Hittner the world-renowned pediatric eye doctor to see if Jaxson is developing a lazy eye (strabismus). I've noticed lately that one eye is "off" in a few pictures... and also when he is tired. Hopefully it's just my imagination, but we have to go see Dr. Hittner anyway at a year old as a follow-up since he saw her 3 times while in the NICU to test for ROP (retinopathy of prematurity). Preemies can develop ROP when they are exposed to oxygen (as most preemies are) while their eyes are still maturing. Luckily Jaxson did not develop ROP. Other than that he is doing great! Here is a short clip of Jaxson about a week ago bouncing in his exersaucer like a crazy person... enjoy!

Dear Ann and Shawn,
Jaxson is just adorable! I can't believe how big he has gotten and how active he is! He certainly doesn't look like a preemie anymore. Hopefully, you have reached a point where you don't have to worry quite so much - no more monitor or oxygen (You never truly stop worrying, but with a preemie, I can only imagine how scary it must be). He really is a doll and I can't wait until our next family get together so that I can really get to know him.
Ya'll are doing a great job. Hope the appointment with Dr. Hittner goes well. I'll check your blog for updates.
Love,
Aunt Reyne
